Beyond Words: Building Real Trans Inclusion - A workshop with Jules Gill-Peterson

About this event

Forget everything you’ve learned in Trans 101!

This workshop ditches the repetitive pronoun circles and endless glossaries of the standard DEI model and instead teaches you how to tap into your greatest resource for trans inclusion: yourself.

Led by trans scholar and public figure Jules Gill-Peterson, participants will work together in a uniquely practical way to tackle what feels hardest, awkward, and anxiety-inducing about trans-inclusion.

Whether you are just starting to think about gender diversity or have a great deal of experience, this workshop will let you get to the heart of what really matters in your organization, company, or institution.

You’ll leave with a new network of like-minded professionals and a personalized agenda of action items.

About Jules Gill-Peterson

Jules Gill-Peterson is a trans historian, writer, and cultural critic. She is the author of “Histories of the Transgender Child,” winner of a Lambda Literary Award for Transgender Nonfiction, and the recipient of a Chancellor’s Distinguished Research Award from the University of Pittsburgh. Her writing and work have also been published in The New York Times, The Guardian, CNN, Washington Post, and Jewish Currents.

Jules is currently an Associate Research Professor of History at Johns Hopkins Hospital and a General Editor of Transgender Studies Quarterly.

This workshop will help you:

  1. Break out of the mold: Discover why the usual trans diversity and inclusion doesn’t achieve what it aims for.

  2. Find your strengths: Participate in breakout sessions in which you will identify the challenges you face in building meaningful trans inclusion and work with your peers on action items.

  3. Leverage the hive mind: Build a real-time database of challenges and solutions with your fellow workshop participants.
